Acquire Shared Coordinates When Collaborating using Collaboration for Revit - Autodesk Knowledge

This topic describes how to use the Acquire command to share coordinates between files in the cloud when the Publish command is disabled. This procedure follows a sample scenario. It consists of a single project with three separate sites defined in this project. Separate models are used for each of the defined sites.

Note: If your project includes a single building model that needs to be located on each of the different sites, you will need to make temporary copies of that model for each additional site.

1. Share the models in the cloud by initiating collaboration on each model.
2. Open "Building A" model.
   1. Define a new site for this building model.
      1. Click Manage tabProject Location panelLocation.
      2. In the Location Weather and Site dialog, click the Site tab.
      3. Duplicate the Internal site.
      4. Name the new site "Site A".
      5. Set "Site A" as current.
      6. Click OK to accept the changes and close the dialog.
   2. Link in the "Site" model.
      1. Click Insert tabLink panelLink Revit.
      2. In the Import/Link RVT dialog, select the "Site" model from the current project location in the cloud.
      3. Use the default positioning of "Auto - Center to Center".
      4. Click Open.
   3. Position the "Site" model to the correct place in the "Building A" model.
      1. In the Site Plan view, use the Align command align the references such as grids and levels on the site model to references of the building model.
      2. In any elevation view, use the Align command to align the site building pad to the base of the building model.
   4. Acquire the Shared Coordinate system from the "Site" model into the "Building A" model.
      1. Click Manage tabProject Location panelCoordinates dropdownAcquire Coordinates to launch the Acquire Coordinates pick editor.
      2. Select the "Site" model linked instance in the open view.
         When the site model is selected it will be pinned in place.
3. Open "Building B" model.
   1. Define a new site for this building model.
      1. Click Manage tabProject Location panelLocation.
      2. In the Location Weather and Site dialog, click the Site tab.
      3. Duplicate the Internal site.
      4. Name the new site "Site B".
      5. Set "Site B" as current.
      6. Click OK to accept the changes and close the dialog.
   2. Link in the "Site" model.
      1. Click Insert tabLink panelLink Revit.
      2. In the Import/Link RVT dialog, select the "Site" model from the current project location in the cloud.
      3. Use the default positioning of "Auto - Center to Center".
      4. Click Open.
   3. Position the "Site" model to the correct place in the "Building B" model.
      1. In the Site Plan view, use the Align command align the references such as grids and levels on the site model to references of the building model.
      2. In any elevation view, use the Align command to align the site building pad to the base of the building model.
   4. Acquire the Shared Coordinate system from the "Site" model into the "Building B" model.
      1. Click Manage tabProject Location panelCoordinates dropdownAcquire Coordinates to launch the Acquire Coordinates pick editor
      2. Select the "Site" model linked instance in the open view.
         When the site model is selected it will be pinned in place.
4. Open "Building C" model.
   1. Define a new site for this building model.
      1. Click Manage tabProject Location panelLocation.
      2. In the Location Weather and Site dialog, click the Site tab.
      3. Duplicate the Internal site.
      4. Name the new site "Site C".
      5. Set "Site C" as current.
      6. Click OK to accept the changes and close the dialog.
   2. Link in the "Site" model.
      1. Click Insert tabLink panelLink Revit.
      2. In the Import/Link RVT dialog, select the "Site" model from the current project location on A360.
      3. Use the default positioning of "Auto - Center to Center".
      4. Click Open.
   3. Position the "Site" model to the correct place in the "Building C" model.
      1. In the Site Plan view, use the Align command align the references such as grids and levels on the site model to references of the building model.
      2. In any elevation view, use the Align command to align the site building pad to the base of the building model.
   4. Acquire the Shared Coordinate system from the "Site" model into the "Building C" model.
      1. Click Manage tabProject Location panelCoordinates dropdownAcquire Coordinates.
      2. In the Acquire Coordinates pick editor, select the "Site" model linked instance in the open view.
         When the site model is selected it will be pinned in place.
5. With all building models open, copy each defined site location into each building model.
   1. In "Building A" model open Transfer Project Standards.
      1. Click Manage tabSettings panelTransfer Project Standards.
      2. In the Select Items to Copy dialog, for Copy from, select "Building B".
      3. Click Check None.
      4. Select Project Info.
      5. Click OK to initiate the transfer.
      6. In the Duplicate Types dialog, click New Only.
      7. Repeat the steps 1 through 6 to copy settings from the "Building C" model.
   2. In "Building B" model open Transfer Project Standards.
      1. Click Manage tabSettings panelTransfer Project Standards.
      2. In the Select Items to Copy dialog, for Copy from, select to "Building A".
      3. Click Check None.
      4. Select Project Info.
      5. Click OK to initiate the transfer.
      6. In the Duplicate Types dialog, click New Only.
   3. In "Building C" model open Transfer Project Standards.
      1. Click Manage tabSettings panelTransfer Project Standards.
      2. In the Select Items to Copy dialog, for Copy from, select "Building A".
      3. Click Check None.
      4. Select Project Info.
      5. Click OK to initiate the transfer.
      6. In the Duplicate Types dialog, click New Only.
6. Verify all positions inside the "Site" model.
   1. Link in "Building A" using Shared Positioning.
      1. Click Insert tabLink panelLink Revit.
      2. In the Import/Link RVT dialog, select the "Building A" model from the current project location in the cloud.
      3. For Positioning, select "Auto - By Shared Coordinates".
      4. Click Open.
      5. In the Location Weather and Site dialog, select the site where you want to locate the model, in this case select "Site A". Click OK.
   2. Link in "Building B" using Shared Positioning.
      1. Click Insert tabLink panelLink Revit.
      2. In the Import/Link RVT dialog, select the "Building C" model from the current project location in the cloud.
      3. For Positioning, select "Auto - By Shared Coordinates".
      4. Click Open.
      5. In the Location Weather and Site dialog, select the site where you want to locate the model, in this case select "Site B". Click OK.
   3. Link in "Building C" using Shared Positioning.
      1. Click Insert tabLink panelLink Revit.
      2. In the Import/Link RVT dialog, select the "Building C" model from the current project location in the cloud.
      3. For Positioning, select "Auto - By Shared Coordinates".
      4. Click Open.
      5. In the Location Weather and Site dialog, select the site where you want to locate the model, in this case select "Site C". Click OK.

Because each building model contains each of the site locations any building can appear on any of the sites.

1. Remove the "Building B" and "Building C" linked models from the "Site" model.
   1. Click Manage tabManage Project panelManage Links.
   2. In the Manage Links dialog, select the "Building B" link.
   3. Click Remove.
   4. In the Unload Link message box, select OK to confirm the removal.
   5. Select the "Building C" link.
   6. Click Remove.
   7. In the Unload Link message box, select OK to confirm the removal.
   8. Select OK to dismiss the Manage Links dialog.
2. Duplicate "Building A".
   1. In the Project Browser, expand the Revit Links node.
   2. Select the "Building A" linked model and drag and drop it anywhere into the active view.
   3. Select the new instance of "Building A".
   4. On the Properties palette click the button in the Shared Site value.
   5. In the Choose Site dialog, for Move Instance to, select "Site B". Click OK.
      This instance of "Building A" will now appear on "Site B".
3. Repeat the previous steps for the "Site C".
